Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month | May 4–10

Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get said enough

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we recognize Maternal Mental Health Week from May 4th to May 10th.

In honor of this, we want to take a moment to talk about mental health—and to remind women, especially moms, of something important:

You are not alone if you are feeling:

  • Depressed

  • Anxious

  • Overwhelmed

  • Lost

  • Alone

  • Or like life isn’t going to get any better

Because the truth is…

More women are feeling this way than you think.

A mom looking overwhelmed and sad. The area around her looks chaotic.

Sometimes just knowing you’re not alone changes everything

There’s something powerful about hearing:

👉 “Me too.”

Sometimes, knowing that other women have experienced—or are currently experiencing—the same thoughts and feelings can take away even a small piece of the weight you’re carrying.

It doesn’t fix everything overnight. But it reminds you:

You’re not the only one going through this.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS ALONE

Even if it feels like it. Even if you’ve been holding it in. Even if you’re used to being the one who takes care of everyone else.

You deserve support too.

Motherhood is both beautiful… and demanding

Motherhood is often described as one of the most rewarding experiences in life.

And it is.

But it’s also one of the most:

  • Physically demanding

  • Mentally exhausting

  • Emotionally overwhelming

You’re constantly needed. Constantly thinking. Constantly giving.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, it’s easy to lose track of how you are actually doing.

When you don’t feel like yourself anymore

For many moms, it’s not always a clear “something is wrong.”

Sometimes it sounds more like:

  • “I just feel off”

  • “I’m more irritable than I used to be”

  • “I feel overwhelmed by things that didn’t bother me before”

  • “I don’t feel like myself anymore”

And because these feelings don’t always seem “serious enough,” they often get pushed aside.

Common doesn’t mean you have to live with it

A lot of these feelings are common in motherhood.

But that doesn’t mean you’re meant to just push through them without support.

Struggling doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. It means you’re navigating something that is genuinely hard.

Your mental health matters just as much as everything else

Taking care of your mental health isn’t selfish.

It’s necessary.

Not just for you—but for your ability to show up the way you want to in your life, your relationships, and your family.

A gentle place to start

If any part of this resonates with you, here are a few small ways to begin:

  • Talk to someone you trust (a friend, partner, or family member)

  • Take a few minutes for yourself—even if it’s just to breathe or step outside

  • Write down what you’ve been feeling instead of keeping it in

  • Remind yourself that it’s okay to not have everything figured out

You don’t need to have a full plan.

You just need a starting point.

A reminder you might need today

You are not alone.

You are not failing.

And this season does not define you forever.

There is support.

There are people who understand.

And there are ways forward—even if you can’t see them yet.

Some facts to be aware of:

  • 1 in 8 moms will experience postpartum depression.

  • 1 in 5 moms will experience a mental health condition during pregnancy or postpartum.

  • Perinatal Mental Health conditions can begin during pregnancy and extend up to two years postpartum- and look different for everyone.

  • Nearly 1 in 2 people will experience a mental health challenge at some point in their life.
